We are Sentient Engine!

Hi! I'm pleased to announce the opening of Sentient Engine, a West Oakland makerspace for those who want to build cool stuff but don't have the room or tools!

What we offer:

 

A spacious sewing bay stocked with three standard machines, a serger, a pants press, irons and boards, and all the shears and pins and tapes you'll need to put together fabulous outfits, custom drapery, or repairs and upgrades to existing clothes. Put in your own real pockets!

 

A leathercrafting area with an anvil, hammers, rivet and grommet setters, regular and stitching awls, and all the rest of the etcetera to make your own durable belts, pouches, purses, wallets or what have you.

 

A woodworking bay replete with saws, to wit: Table saws, vertical bandsaw, circular saws, sawzall, chops saw, oscillating saw, jigsaw, flush cut pull saw, and probably a couple other I can't remember right now. As well as a belt grinder, chisels, a mighty fine bench vise mounted to a crappy workbench, and other accoutrements.

 

A metalworking bay with a good old fashioned lincoln lunchbox mig, a plasma cutter, a tig/stick machine I haven't setup yet, a carbon-arc gouging torch I also haven't setup yet, bench grinder, angle grinder, chop saw (not the same one as the woodworking bay!), and of course other whatsits and hobnobs. Don't forget the water-cooled drill press I'm inordinately proud of!

 

A multimedia crafts area, filled with paints and markers and brushes and scissors and papercutters, hot glue guns and engravers and I don't honestly even know what else. Stuff! For arts and crafts! Make stuff that looks good! Make stuff that's ugly! Make stuff that's your personal preference!

 

We of course have cubbies to stash your personal items and bicycle parking inside, a couple car parking spaces outside, and truth be told, a plethora of other tools and abilities I'm not quite long-winded enough to annotate.

 

In-house stuff shlepping available, for a small fee for members, with our 24' stepvan!
